PokerStars still facing hurdles in NJ casino deal

Online casinos are legal in New Jersey only in a situation, where a land-based casino, based in the state, is operating the online casino games.

To make sure that they get the opportunity as well, PokerStars is keen on acquiring the Atlantic Club Casino Hotel. This acquisition will help them in establishing a brick and mortar casino connection with the state. However, there are a lot of issues still with the deal involving the online firm and the financially distressed Atlantic City casino.

PokerStars’ license application for operating online and land-based casinos in Atlantic City needs to go through deliberations in a procedural hearing, which will be conducted by the state’s casino control commission.

Another obstacle in their path of being operational in NJ is the AGA (American Gambling Association). They are strongly opposing PokerStars’ entry in the NJ gambling market. They have even put a request to intervene the license hearing of the club. Their objection on the approval is mainly due to the fact that the online gambling firm deliberately violated the 2009 online anti-gambling law, also termed as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
